Kick pays streamers far more per subscriber. Twitch has far more viewers. Almost every Kick vs Twitch comparison stops there, and neither fact on its own tells you where to stream. What matters is which trade-off suits the channel you have now, and whether you have to choose at all.
This guide compares the two on the things that decide that: audience and discovery, how soon you can earn, how much you keep, how you get paid, content rules and simulcasting.
The short answer
If you are starting from zero and your priority is building an audience, Twitch still has the larger pool of viewers and the more developed tools for collaborating with other streamers. If you already have viewers willing to pay, or you want to start earning as early as possible, Kick’s 95/5 subscription split and five-hour entry requirement are hard to beat. Many streamers now avoid the choice by simulcasting to both, which both platforms allow with conditions covered below.

Audience and discovery
Twitch is still the bigger platform by a wide margin. Streams Charts measured Twitch at about three times Kick’s total hours watched in the second quarter of 2026, but that gap was closer to five times a year earlier. Kick grew its hours watched by 7.6 percent over the previous quarter while Twitch held roughly flat, and Kick’s esports viewership grew much faster than Twitch’s.
A bigger audience is not automatically better for a small streamer. On any platform, directories are sorted largely by current viewers, so a new channel starts at the bottom either way. What differs is how crowded that bottom is and what tools you have to climb out of it.
Twitch’s advantage here is its collaboration tooling. Stream Together lets any streamer appear live on another channel, and Shared Chat merges communities during a collab, which makes borrowing another streamer’s audience straightforward. Twitch also has a deep culture of raids, teams and networking. Kick’s smaller creator base can mean less competition in some categories, and a growing platform can be a good place to become an early, recognisable name in a niche. How soon you can start earning
Kick has the lowest barrier of any major platform. Subscriptions unlock after five cumulative hours of streaming, with no follower or viewer requirement and no application. You do need to complete Stripe onboarding, and if Stripe does not operate in your country, you cannot enable subscriptions at all. Check that before you plan around Kick.
Twitch Affiliate asks for more, but not much. Within a 30-day window you need 25 followers, 4 hours streamed on 4 different days, and an average of 3 concurrent viewers on 4 different days. How much you keep
Subscriptions
This is Kick’s headline advantage. A Kick subscription costs a flat 5 US dollars in every supported country, and you keep 95 percent: 4.75 dollars, with 25 cents taken as a processing fee. One hundred subscribers is roughly 475 dollars a month before tax.
Twitch’s standard Affiliate split is 50/50, and it is applied after taxes, payment processing, bank and currency fees are taken from the subscription price. Your share per subscriber therefore varies by region and payment method, and it is always well under half of what the viewer paid. The Plus Program improves that. Hold 100 Plus points for three consecutive months and your split on recurring and gift subscriptions rises to 60/40; hold 300 and it rises to 70/30. It still does not approach Kick’s rate.
The gap is real, but it only matters once you have subscribers. Ninety-five percent of very little is still very little, and a platform where more people find you can out-earn one with a better split.
Everything else
Twitch Affiliates also earn from Bits, the platform’s cheering currency, and from ads on their channel. Kick’s tipping currency, KICKs, pays you 95 percent of its value, and Kick runs Bounties, where Kick or a brand pays for short clips. Bounties do not depend on your concurrent viewers, so a streamer who is good at editing can earn well from them relative to channel size.

The upper tiers
Both platforms have an application-based tier above the entry level. On Twitch, that is Partner. On Kick, it is the KICK Partner Program, which pays revenue per stream on top of subscriptions. Kick does not publish that per-stream rate, so treat any figure you see quoted with caution.
Kick’s published bar is substantial: a verified channel, 250 followers, an average of 75 concurrent viewers over 30 days, 30 hours streamed, 25 active subscriptions, 250 unique chatters and 3 VODs, all within the past 30 days. The viewer and subscriber figures are the real hurdle, because they require an audience that already shows up and pays. Getting paid
Twitch pays once your balance reaches 50 dollars on most payout methods, or 100 dollars by wire transfer. Payment is initiated 15 days after the end of the month you earned it, so April’s earnings are sent in mid-May and land a few days later depending on the method.
Kick pays exclusively through Stripe, to a bank account. Plan around a monthly schedule: Kick’s documentation mentions weekly payouts for verified streamers in one place and describes monthly as standard in another. Your first payout arrives after Stripe verification and the end of the next monthly cycle, which can take up to 30 days after month end. Content rules
The clearest policy difference is gambling. Since October 2022, Twitch has banned streaming slots, roulette and dice games from sites that are unlicensed in the United States or other jurisdictions with adequate consumer protections, and it prohibits links and referral codes to such sites. Sports betting, poker and fantasy sports are still allowed. Kick, founded with backing from the co-founders of the Stake crypto casino, permits gambling streams from sites that verify users are 18 or over.
That matters even if you never stream gambling. It shapes what shows up in each platform’s directories and which sponsors are active there, and some brands weigh a platform’s content mix when deciding where to spend. Both platforms apply their own community guidelines to everything else, so read the rules for the categories you plan to stream.
Can you stream on both?
Yes, with conditions on each side.
Twitch dropped its exclusivity requirement for Affiliates and Partners in October 2023. You can simulcast, but the Twitch stream must be at least as good as the stream elsewhere, including how you engage with Twitch chat, and you must not direct Twitch viewers to leave for a concurrent stream on another platform. Twitch’s written terms also restrict showing combined activity from other platforms, such as a merged chat, on your Twitch video. Twitch leadership has said it would stop penalising combined chat overlays, but the written guidelines have not caught up, so the safer setup is to watch a combined chat privately and keep it off the stream.
Kick allows multistreaming, but if you are in the KICK Partner Program you must enable multistreaming in your dashboard, and Kick reduces your Partner revenue while your stream is also live elsewhere. The reduction Kick describes applies to Partner revenue, so a streamer earning from subscriptions and tips can use simulcasting to test Kick without that trade-off. Check your own dashboard terms before relying on it.

Which should you choose?
Choose Twitch if
You are building from zero and want the largest pool of gaming viewers, you plan to grow through collaborations, raids and streamer communities, or your content and sponsors benefit from Twitch’s stricter rules on gambling.
Choose Kick if
You want to earn from subscriptions as early as possible, you already have viewers who will pay and want to keep more of what they spend, or you want to establish yourself on a faster-growing platform with less competition in your niche. Confirm Stripe works in your country first.
Consider both if
You can sustain the upload, and you want to find out where your audience actually engages. Simulcast for a few months, compare followers, chat activity and subscriptions on each, and let that decide where you focus. Moving an established audience wholesale is rarely as clean as it looks, so test before you switch.

Which is easier to monetize?
Kick. Five streamed hours unlocks subscriptions, against Twitch Affiliate’s follower, day and viewer requirements. Earning meaningful money is a different question, and it depends on building an audience on either platform.
Can I move my Twitch subscribers to Kick?
Not directly. Subscriptions do not transfer between platforms, so viewers would have to subscribe again on Kick. Kick’s Fast Track route exists for creators with an established audience elsewhere who want to join its Partner Program.
