In a surprise announcement, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins told his followers that he would no longer stream on Twitch. Instead, he’s moving to Twitch rival Mixer.
“I know this may come as a shock to many of you, but as of today, I will be streaming exclusively on Mixer,” Ninja says in a video announcing the move. “I feel like this is a really good chance to get back in touch with my roots and really remember why I fell in love with streaming in the first place.”
Ninja has nearly 15 million subscribers on Twitch, easily making him the most popular streamer on the Amazon-owned platform. The second-most popular streamer, Shroud, has less than half as many followers.
The move is somewhat confounding, given the Fortnite streamer’s immense success. CNBC reports that Ninja earns more than $500,000 a month between Twitch and YouTube. We can only speculate that the move to Mixer must come with a hefty payout, which is owned by Microsoft.
The move comes just as Fortnite‘s Season X gets underway. Epic Games just released the latest season today along with an overview trailer.
